The Two Boxes in Your Expectation Bag
One of the reasons why navigating the 20s is hard is because we put a lot of expectations in our bag.
Apparently, it’s not a lot—just two—but they’re so heavy that you need to be easy with them to help you sail smoothly through your journey.
Can you guess what are the two boxes?
The first box is the image box.
Image box is the expectation of having a certain image that we believe is the ideal form of ourselves.
Since we were children, we have always been told to pursue a certain identity, thinking we need to fit a certain mold. That is.. until we find out that life turns out to be messy and unpredictable.
We want to wear this one hat. But life gave us a different hat. And another hat. And another. Next time you know... you wear 12 hats already!
But that’s just how life is. People change and evolve.
Many of us might have a certain job title at the office. But we might also be a student, a parent, a friend, a hobbyist, or a whole other thing—all at the same time.
Trying to fit into one identity can be exhausting and limiting.
Embrace the fluidity and allow yourself to change as you go.
The second box is the check box.
Check box is the expectation of having everything planned out and checking off every item on our list before we’re happy.
If you’re hitting your 20s you’d already knew that life doesn’t follow a script. Some of your dreams might not come true. Or it might come true but not play out as we wish.
Maybe as time goes they're no lo longer relevant, or maybe they weren't as fulfilling as we thought.
That's okay, though! It's just part of the journey.
Instead of clinging to rigid check boxes, try to be more flexible and open to new paths and new possibilities.
Let's adapt and adjust as we go. After all, life is a journey, not a destination, right?
We hope this writing helps you lighten your bag.Be kind to yourself and embrace the unknown. And of course... enjoy the ride!
